In the novel "Bodega Dream" by Ernesto Quinonez, the theme i choose for this story is The American Dream. The characters Blanca and Chino, a married couple, that struggle to keep there american dream a goal in spanish harlem. Blanca and Chino get into argument like every relationship does but when the agruee they dont seem to realize that the agureement are base on thier own different dreams. Blanca is a clean cut woman who is really relagious and her dream is to have her healthy baby born in a safe nieborhood, live in a nice apparment with a husband with a legit job. While on the other hand Chinos dream is a nice profecional buisness man but on the inside he holds his reputation as a guy that was brought up in the hood and known as 'Chino", his dream is to be known as julio the one whos married to a beautiful church girl & lives in a nice appartment but he still wants to stay in bad nieborhood and the ones who is keeping his heart lock to the hood is his drug dealer friend Sapo. As Blanca start unfolding the clean cut image off of Chino she doesnt approve of it and tries to get him into the dream she created. The American Dream to most people involve a nice house with an averange of 2 or 3 childern, a working god father/husband, a stay at home mom and a faily pet, almost known as the perfect life. As many times as a person can create these fanatsy wishes they not guarantee. Dreams shouldnt be expected to be perfect not even the american ones.
we can see the theme American Dream relates to conflict becuase as Blanca and Chino create there dreams they start to get involved in eachothers dreams at the same time and wanting to move forward but people are holding them back. The conflict that is included in the theme show up in a chapter were Chino is packing his belongings to move to anther nieborhood but Sapo start interagating him of why hes leaving and tries to brainwash Chino telling him "you can leave the gettho but the gettho aint leaving outta you". Sapo is argueeing with Chino about the dream he wants to create in a anther area but Sapo looks at it like Chino is runing away from what became him. It took alot for Chino to realize that a dream we have we must adapt and change to concure our dreams.
In the novel Chino wife, Blanca, goes through some conflict with Chino about what best for him and what she deserve. Blanca is a pregnant women and all she want is for Chino to have a legit job and no side job and help her move out of the nieborhood to start brand new. Conflict in this area of the book accures many time when Chino and Blanca have there argueements about money, enviornment and about the furture and how they can achieve it. As Blanca tires to create her dream she uses Chino to help her. Blanca wanted to move from the nieborhood but she stayed because it was all they had but she start noticing patterns about Chino is that he gets caught up in the drug dealing life like delievering packages to other drug dealers. blanca tries to change his dream to fit into hers.
Chino basecally has two identity. Julio a college student who wants to do good for his family and Chino who is a getting suck in the life of willie bodega, a drug dealer that cant be stop,he is who people fear and know him as a creater of dreams. Bodega aims his eyes for chino because chino is a smart man who Bodega find as a cover uo so people would never expect any worst thing to happen,when stuff hit the fan the cops wont think its him .
The American dream doesnt involve drama and voilence it involves love, a house,family, wealth and success but what most people dont realize is that the American Dream is not a guarantee offer. Its what u perfer. Blanca and Chino American Dream didnt turn out the way they wanted. There dreams hit a couple a bumps to get as far as they went but wasnt successfuly made. Most people cope with not having what they dream for and Blanca and Chino are an example of it. Dream are just something people reach for but never really touch the sky. The novel Bodega Dreams is anyther way of say dreams dont always come true.

In the United State the Amendments have changed the government and society. Throughout history, activist have agureed for thier rights. In 1870 the 15th amendment was created for the right to vote. Also in 1920 the 19th amendment gave women the right to vote. History dealt with alot of way to adopt these amendments. The aftermath of these amendment change the American society. Government started to accept the changes and adapt to it.
The 19th amendment was created in 1920 but women had to struggle to get thier rights. After the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr life for women have been denied the equal rights. Susan B. anthnoy was inspired by the action that Martin Luther Jr created for standing up for african american rights that she arranged for the right of women. Anther activist named Betty Afriedan wrote a book about how society forced women out of thier jobs and back to thier home after world war II. The book The Feminine Mystique motivated women to move foward with the movement. Betty wrote the book to influence women by saying not every women has to stay home. Susan B. Anthony countiued the fight for thier right after congress denied the right. After wining the argueement for women right in 1920 congress ratified the 19th amendment. women was looking for jobs and made organiztions like N.O.W (national organization for women) to push the guaranteed of equality for women.
Durring the 1870 males citizens over 21 was able to vote. Most of the men that was able to vote was white Southerns.The 15th was for the state to approve any citizen from voting no matter what race or previous condition of servitude, the state couldnt keep them from voting. For over 100 years african americans was denied the right to vote.
These amendment changed history. Many circumstances led to the adoption of the 15th and 19th amendment.
